Solé
Latin rock. It does not happen often that a group which doesn't sing in
swedish or english makes a big impact. German crazy hits like Schnappi
have done it, or Latin-American rock artists like Shakira or Ricky Martin.
But that's about it. That is if one doesn't take into account Juanes,
who is now making his way up the charts after a huge marketing campaign.
Rock sung in spanish is not very common.
It is possible that Juanes is opening the door for Solé, who plays
a similar, latin flavored rock. Solé is a multicultural quintet
from Gothenburg who's members come from Colombia, Uruguay, Iran, England
and Sweden. They are just about ready to record their first album, on
an independent label, and when you listen to the demo, they are definitely
ready. They have found their way of writing songs, their style is well
defined and expressive and the only thing that might be missing are a
couple of really intensive jam sessions in their studio. Unfortunately,
they are not always perfectly tight and for this kind of music to really
swing that is essential. But the singer is good and the saxophone does
a nice job in adding variation to the overall sound.
